Episode Synopsis

On television, Satan boasts about his power and victory over Cell even more. Meanwhile, after returning to the Earth of the future, Trunks reunites with Bulma, and talks about what happened in the past. They then learn from the radio that No. 17 and 18 have appeared and are destroying a city, and Trunks flies off to where they are. Not knowing of Trunks’ power-up, No. 18 and 17 are pulverized! Time passes, and Trunks lures Cell out as Cell has his eyes on the time machine. Surprised, Cell tries to defeat Trunks, even without being in his perfect form, but is instead overwhelmed and wiped out. In the afterlife, Goku is seen traveling along Serpent Road with Kaiō and battling strong opponents. Through his friends and his son Gohan, Goku’s story and spirit will live on forever!

Until We Meet Again!

Episode Notes

  • This episode was originally scheduled to air on Sunday, 27 March 2011 at 9:00AM on Fuji TV. However, due to the news coverage of the horrific earthquake that hit Japan on 11 March 2011, the broadcast of this episode was canceled. At this point the episode has not been broadcast in any subsequent re-runs of the series and is only viewable in Japan through home video releases.
  • While this episode was originally intended to feature Kenji Yamamoto’s musical score, the background music was replaced prior to its initial broadcast with Shunsuke Kikuchi’s original score from Dragon Ball Z due to allegations of musical infringement. Therefore this episode is only available with Shunsuke Kikuchi’s original score, in both the original broadcast and home video releases.
  • The last two minutes of the episode are comprised of a montage of clips from Goku’s match with Paikuhan in the Ano-Yo’ichi Budōkai and various scenes seen throughout the series all set to the “Dragon Soul” theme song. The narrator notes just before the montage that Goku’s adventures did continue, but that he’d “leave that story for another time”. The montage appears to have been put together solely due to the series’ early end, however it did create a nice segue into the Majin Boo arc when the series was revived three years later on 06 April 2014.
  • Lyricist Yuriko Mori’s name is erroneously misspelled as “森 由子” in the credits for the insert song “CURE ~I’ll Be Here~”. The misspelling has been corrected in the credits listed below, but has not been corrected in any home video release.
  • Fuji TV publicist Tomoko Kumagai was incorrectly credited in the ending credits as “熊谷子”, rather than her actual name, “熊谷子”. This error was eventually noticed and publicly addressed by Toei Animation in an “Apology and Correction” note included with the “Artificial Human & Cell arc” box sets released in January 2015. However, the error was not actually corrected in these releases and still appears in all Blu-ray and DVD home video sets, in addition to the episode’s original broadcast.

Re-animated Scene Gallery

This collection compiles all re-animated scenes featured in this episode’s home video release, as the original TV broadcast was cancelled, and are listed in order of appearance. Each re-animated scene will be presented with a screen shot from the original Dragon Ball Z TV series (left) and another taken from the Dragon Ball Kai home video release (right). All original comparison screen shots were taken from the Japanese Dragon Boxes and maintain their proper 4:3 aspect ratios. It should be noted that some of these re-animated scenes only appear in the widescreen presentation of the series and were possibly omitted from fullscreen releases, both domestically and internationally.
