Re: How skilled are Dragon ball characters as martial artist?
In DC, there is Karate Kid, a human from the future who has mastered every conceivable martial art(including alien ones) and was able to actually physically tangle with Superboy in sparring matches. I do believe that this is the concept of Chi/Ki in DC's universe, allowing even an ordinary human to...

Re: How skilled are Dragon ball characters as martial artist?
This actually has me thinking. I'm not well versed in deeper metaphysical and cosmic fabric of the DC universe. Is there anything resembling "qi/chi/ki" in the sense that East Asian mythology shows martial artists as being able to tap into and weaponize for superhuman feats? Are there any ...

Re: How skilled are Dragon ball characters as martial artist?
The question in the title is tricky because Dragon Ball is a fantasy martial arts story pulling from East Asian mythology, in which the "powers" are simply high level martial arts. From the Wuxia Thread : ...the martial arts skills detailed and displayed in Wuxia fiction is ANYTHING but ro...

Forget Broli, Vegetto, Bra, and whoever else. This comic's real main characters are Bojack and his gang.

Re: If faced with the choice of sacrificing the franchise's massive popularity
Some of you have argued that something else would have filled the void left by DB. For some people this would have been the case, but for others it wouldn't, as not everything resonates in the same way. If the show helped a single person turn their life around who otherwise wouldn't have, then it w...

Re: If faced with the choice of sacrificing the franchise's massive popularity
If you say your life would be absolutely no different without DB I'll take your word for it. Maybe it really hasn't impacted you that much, but again there are no end of stories of people turning their lives around after becoming fans. Obviously these people would be worse off without it. There's n...

Doesn't Goku still do all of those things in the anime?

Re: If faced with the choice of sacrificing the franchise's massive popularity
Victims of this behavior do not need to go the extra mile of accomodating weird, immature assholes when talking about cartoons on the internet. No, they don't, but some do anyway. Some stick around in shitty spaces hostile to them. There are, for instance, women, queer people, and people of color w...

Re: If faced with the choice of sacrificing the franchise's massive popularity
If 'hecklers' are going to contribute to an atmosphere where someone is called a 'fake fan', that is inevitably going to lead to people feeling pushed out of fandom spaces. It's a very common tactic for 'gatekeeping' women or queer people from fandom spaces, for example. Agreed, but indirectly disc...

Re: If faced with the choice of sacrificing the franchise's massive popularity
I'm confused. What "gatekeeping" is occurring by some fans idling fantasizing about trading some aspects of fandom for high quality releases? What are these "gatekeepers" limiting access to in the first place through their "gatekeeping"? Did this thread's existence trip...

Re: Angel Clarification in TOP
I think the speculation came about because a lot of people expected/wanted things to go down similarly to the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai, where the tournament was just a set up to get subverted and derailed by the actual plot and story.

Re: Death Battle Goku vs Superman again...again
In the wise words of Stan Lee- "So one Question I'm always asked. Who would win in a fight? Who would win in a fight if Galactus fought The Hulk, or if Thor fought Iron Man? And there's one answer to all of that. It's so simple, anyone should know this. The person who'd win in a fight is the p...

Re: Why do people take "5 minutes Namek explosion" so seriously?
Thing is though, at least in the anime, that Kaio himself backs up the "five minutes" figure by claiming that "Less than a minute remains" in episode 103. It takes another three episodes for the planet to explode after this. This line does not exist in the manga, but then in the...

Re: Why do people take "5 minutes Namek explosion" so seriously?
Freeza is not an omnipotent god who can perfectly predict what will happen in the future and when.. he could have easily made a bad prediction and thats all. Yeah, I don't really think this line is the big deal that many make it out to be (at least from an in-universe perspective). Freeza's more-or...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)
The argument that there's no ambiguity in terms of which aspects of the brand specifically gets pushed by Shueisha doesn't fly I said that the amount of ambiguity is exaggerated, not that there is none. It's not as difficult to disambiguate here as one might think, but some disambiguation is certai...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)
To be honest, I think trying to identify a "main product" for "the Super era" as a whole is a fruitless endeavor so long as we ignore way in which the "revival era" we've been in since 2013 basically divides into three smaller "sub-eras": pre-Super (2013-2015)...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)
As for the idea that the Super anime was "the main product", now that Super is basically over I think its probably time to put this myth to bed. Like the original series, the Super anime was an adaptation of the manga, although one that got way farther ahead of the source material than I ...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Let people have unpopular opinions without blasting them with reasons why they shouldn't have it. Expecting no pushback in a thread where the point is to state unpopular opinions is a bit unrealistic. More than that, this is a forum. An "Unpopular Opinions" thread on a forum ought to moti...
