Re: If faced with the choice of sacrificing the franchise's massive popularity
To the people who insist they genuinely would be fine sacrificing DB's popularity, and say it's not important I have to ask this; What if YOU had never heard of it? Think about it. You're making the assumption that you would still have seen it somehow, but realistically the odds of that would be low...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 13; Still Unreleased
As far as I know, having talked to a source from Toon-A-Vision, they looked into licensing Kai from Ocean, Ken basically said they had bigger priorities at that time, but after speaking to me he emailed Ken again and they said Toon-A-Vision would be updated after TOEI's head office made the final d...

Re: Will there be a bidding war for who gets to air/stream any future Dragon ball anime?
The only issue with BBC is they only stream the edited version of Super, at least to my knowledge. Honestly I wouldn't mind seeing DB on Netflix. After the huge success of One Piece Live action maybe they'd be more open to stuff like the various DB shows. It would also get lots if exposure on there....

If the Bang Zoom Super dub was allowed to be a thing back in 2016 then I doubt Toei would be that much against Ocean Kai airing.
Also didn't Ken Morrisson mention a couple of years back that he had an offer to air it, but held off for a better opportunity? I'm sure someone here mentioned that.

Re: If faced with the choice of sacrificing the franchise's massive popularity
And another thing, as someone who has now been on both sides of this particular fandom's divide at different points in time (about 9 years ago for me, when the first version I watched was a thoroughly mutilated one and it was only Z that was being promoted everywhere I looked), there is absolutely ...

Re: If faced with the choice of sacrificing the franchise's massive popularity
I know it is frustrating to see Dragon Ball treated in such a subpar manner... but I think this way of thinking is INCREDIBLY selfish. People here are saying "Oh the people who want Dragon Ball to be popular are just atention whores who want THEIR franchise to be the most popular thing. The fra...

Re: What's your most recent Dragonball purchase?
That's just it, it always comes down to "well it looks nice" when it comes to both the box art and the pictures of the characters. In my defense though, unlike other anime and series in general I can at least guarantee I'll always rewatch Dragon Ball and check out a different release ever...

Re: If faced with the choice of sacrificing the franchise's massive popularity
I for one wouldn't sacrifice the popularity of the franchise. Its had such a positive impact on the lives of the many fans, which obviously wouldn't have been as widespread had it not become popular. There's been stories of people who literally turned their lives around after watching DB. That's not...

Re: Black Friday/ Cyber Monday deals 2023
Zavvi.com are selling the UK 4:3 blu-rays for £15 each, although a couple have sold out already. Amazon UK also had some of them at that price last time I checked. Also HMV are selling the Z movies/specials blu-ray boxset for £23. And the new Crunchyroll Amazon exclusive set of the 16:9 blu-rays is ...

Re: Why didnt Nicktoons air OG dragon ball and The Final chapters
Funimation's early dubs have always been criticised on this forum, but GT's dub in particular seems to get a lot of hate. While I'm a big Faulconer fan and have come to appreciate Kikuchi, I was always pretty indifferent to Menza. It's just a very bland score outside of a couple of tracks, and I str...

Re: Why didnt Nicktoons air OG dragon ball and The Final chapters
I'm actually surprised to hear GT underperformed on Nicktoons. Didn't it historically perform well in the US? I know it did better than OG DB, which also seemed to be the case in the UK as GT got more reruns. Perhaps people were put off by Nicktoons effectively skipping the Buu saga. Going into GT w...

Re: Why didnt Nicktoons air OG dragon ball and The Final chapters
I remember hoping Final Chapters would air on Kix in the UK after Kai 1.0, but it never happened for some reason. The TFC dub was complete for years before it finally made its debut on Toonami US in 2017. We know for a fact that an edited version of that dub exists, but Kix had already stopped their...

Re: Piracy in Draon Ball... And other things
Ideally there would be no piracy because it doesn't support anyone involved in the production of the series and its dubs. However we don't live in an ideal world, and there are cases where we can't support certain products, such as the Westwood and Blue Water dubs, which have not been legally avail...

Re: The first Tree of Might dub
It's strange that this particular version of the movie was even a thing. Like why randomly dub movie 3 and turn it into a 3 part episode, when it clearly has no connection to the main story? Still I do enjoy this version for Corlett's performance and the Ron Wasserman score. It's good that the Rock ...

Re: Was Dragon Ball GT intended to be longer (or shorter) than it actually was?
Another thing to consider is SS4. It would have felt a bit of a waste to introduce a new form for just that one fight. For a lot of people it represents the turning point were GT finally "got good". The writers have said they intentionally went back to a more action focused approach around...

Re: Was Dragon Ball GT intended to be longer (or shorter) than it actually was?
I can see what you mean about the Baby saga wrapping up the events that began with Goku being turned small again. It ends with him making the choice to stay that way, although he can still technically reverse it by going SS4. But it did at least slightly foreshadow the Shadow Dragons. It ends with a...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
While we're on the Androids arc, I'll bring up my opinion that Super Android 13 was a cool movie. It was full of action with not much plot, but since it's about murderous Androids with the only goal to kill, you shouldn't be in there for the plot anyway. But, that argument has been used often, so w...

Toei's fixation on Goku being the strongest
Unlike Toriyama who deliberately made Goku lose fights for story purposes, Toei always seemed to fear him being perceived as anything other than the best. Like they were worried kids would think less of him for losing or being surpassed. A big example of this is the old Z movies, where he defeats th...

Re: Funi's Kai dub and accuracy
I feel like many of the complaints against Kai's dub are nitpicks from people who were never going to give Funimation credit. It's a mostly sincere attempt to be accurate to the original. Like there are some bits here and there that are slightly different, but none of it feels in poor taste. And the...
