Re: Making a Good DB Story v. Making a Good Story
I kinda thought the whole "power of friendship" speech was set up to fail. Like, yeah, Goku gives the whole speech, beats the bejesus out of Jiren, but then his power literally implodes on him. I kinda interpreted that as "fancy shonen speeches don't work." It's the stuff with Fr...

Re: Did you know the original English Gohan was in a Friday the 13th movie?
Peter Kelamis was in an episode of Psych and in a few episodes of iZombie. I believe he was also a recurring character on one of the fifteen quintillion Stargate shows (wouldn't know which one; it was a show my parents were into so I just recognized the title when I was going through Kelamis's film...

Re: Did you know the original English Gohan was in a Friday the 13th movie?
Travis Willingham, who played Cell in a couple video games when Dameon Clarke was taking a break from the role to do live action, got his ass kicked by Robert Duvall in Secondhand Lions. And that's no exaggeration either; apparently Duvall hit for real in that scene based on the story Willingham told.

Re: Long Live Chris Ayres
I say with no reservations that Chris Ayres is the single greatest performer to ever work on a Dragon Ball dub. His Freeza is close to the top of my personal list of greatest dub performances of all time. But beyond all that, Chris Ayres was kind, funny, and just and all-around great person from eve...

Re: So...Gokuism. Your thoughts on it?
I feel like "religions" such as this and Jediism and all that inherently come with a tongue-in-cheek-ness to them, so they're probably fine. Like, nobody actually believes that these are real things, but maybe the people who follow them have an appreciation for many of the values reflected...

Re: Is Dragon Ball Z Funimation's Worst English Dub?
Others have brought up Sleeping Princess, which is a fair point, but I still think their early Z dub is pretty on par acting-wise, and while the Sleeping Princess's ADR script isn't what I would call "good," I do think it's at least better than their Freeza arc/Bardock scripts (the only in...

Re: What haven't you seen?
Maybe someone can explain it better, but the show just doesn't feel like a sequel, prequel, or anything and the art & animation just doesn't please me enough to overlook it. But if you like it, that's fine; more power to you. I'm not hatin or anything, jus explaining why I haven't seen it, the ...

Re: Is anyone annoyed that the revival happened?
Not really. I've been having a great time with the new stuff (aside from the movie retreads), even if some of the Super arcs are uneven. Granted, my favorite thing from the new stuff is literally a retread of the old stuff (Kai), but Battle of Gods and Super Broly aren't far behind and Ultra Instinc...

Re: What haven't you seen?
I just realized I STILL haven’t read the Moro arc... Is it worth it? I thought it was pretty good! Not perfect, but definitely a fun time and probably the most consistent Super arc overall (think I need to think on that more first, tho). If you have the Shonen Jump app it's definitely worth the rea...

Re: Which one is Superior? Dragonball Z Jap version or Dragonball Z Kai Jap version?
The script is essentially the same between the two, though in Kai they did correct Gohan's Masenko when he accidentally called out Kamehameha. Steve Simmons' subtitle translations on the home releases read a bit more naturally in Kai, but the translations both perfectly good for both Z and Kai. Some...

Re: The Original Dragonball vs Dragonball Super
DB by a mile. I mean, I really like Super and think it's a pretty good (if uneven) show after the movie retellings, but to argue that it has much of anything on the original other than some really cool fights? Nah, not a position I'd ever consider taking. Super is fun, but DB is a bona-fide classic.

Re: What haven't you seen?
I haven't seen the 90s Slump crossover nor have I ever finished all of the original Plans to Eradicate the Saiyans (it literally put me to sleep). There are probably random FMV sequences I'm games I've never seen, either. I haven't watched the Korean live-action film all the way through, and I never...

Re: I got my very first DBZ manga.
Hey, pick it up however works best for you. The VizBigs are pretty great IMO! I got them last year for my first full readthrough and the paper quality is really nice. It think they may have some of the most censorship, though. The 3-in-1s and Full Colors should have the least censorship, but the Ful...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 10; Still Unreleased
Can someone post a link of the first time Lee showcased the voice? I wasn't aware of this. Dragon Ball Ireland posted it a little further up: Interesting. It has less of the Madman vibe that we heard in Tockar's recent YouTube interview , and more of a spoiled brat (which is also fitting for the ch...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 10; Still Unreleased
While I do agree that Tokar's voice and performance are likely much better in the dub itself rather than in isolated one-off clips done for fans, I have to admit that neither of the samples we've heard haven't exactly instilled confidence. It's like he's trying to balance between the lizard-like New...

Super Smash Bros. I want Goku in it. I don't care what Sakurai says. (I hope he's able to take a break soon, though. He works too hard.)

Re: How would you rank the 4 anime finales?
Wouldn't there be six endings technically? You get two more for Kai. And I don't mean counting Kai's version of Goku flying off with Oob, combining that with Z's version makes sense. But the original Kai run had two endings: the TV broadcast ending (97, which ends with the Dragon Team seeing Trunks ...

Re: Would you pay Funimation via Kickstarter for a redub of the full Dragon Ball media
If this were true, why wouldn't they do it? Because Funimation has never cared about the pre-Z media, and as a result has never done the market research to find this out. Or they don't care about it as much because it doesn't sell as well. Certainly not so well that it would make a return on invest...

Re: Dragon Ball Kai not streaming anywhere?
That is extremely odd. Another reason I prefer to buy whenever possible. Is it a rights issue? That's literally the only reason I can think of. Maybe Toei was more selective about streaming rights back when Kai's contract was made. Some have theorized that it may have to do with Adult Swim having O...

Re: Dragon Ball Kai not streaming anywhere?
I know, it's aggravating. They have a listing for Kai on FuniNow, but all you get are trailers and clips. The only place you can stream Kai is Amazon, and you have to buy it. Plus it's only the first three seasons. Plus it's dub only. Of course, dub only isn't a deal breaker since the dub is good, b...
