Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō

First 4 chapters were useless - they were basically BoG synopsis with pictures. Now it's so far behind the anime, it doesn't even matter, and anime does it better anyway. The only good thing were those first few Champa chapters to hype us up while we suffer through those retellings. Hey, I dunno - ...

Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #39]

I'm not sure I quite agree with this. It's not that people criticise Yamamuro for being plain old ketchup, it's that he's more like an off-brand ketchup who went out of date a while ago. It's that all the other ketchups taste a little different with whatever they're put with, but the Yamamuro-brand...

Re: Mike's Upcoming JPNS Toy Releases Thread

I'm surprised we don't have Lego lines for the franchise, especially since there isn't any shortage of characters to use. It's not as easy as that unfortunately. A company like Bandai are more likely to try and make themselves, or sub-license, a copy-cat line than get into bed with Lego and receive...

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō

I think the whole skipping ahead was a dual purpose of avoiding the RoF stuff which Toyotaro had already covered, and generating buzz for the new material for the Universe 6 Arc - because, I mean, let's be honest - enthusiasm was flagging.

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō

Wow, I loved the Frost fight. I think those are probably some of my favourite Toyotaro battle panels. It was short and sweet, sure, but it was really impactful. I thought the Magetta fight seemed more like a gag fight in this chapter - not that I'm complaining. Some of Vegeta's expressions were real...

Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #39]

Btw, i don't mind an episode having a lot of standing around to balance out the action, as long as they fill it up with useful dialogue, or building up the tension. It's certainly better than seeing unrelated and long gags with Pilaf's gang or those cutaway adventures that Z did a lot like Chi Chi ...

Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #39]

I think 39 was a competent episode - nothing flashy, nothing spectacular, but most importantly, nothing too awkwardly out-of-place. I think with Super, we now have a pretty solid idea of what the benchmark is in terms of animation quality, and I think, at this point, I'm more inclined to take a cons...

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion

Do think episode 39 will be delayed till next week? ANN has confirmed that Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, Assassination Classroom S2, Sinbad animes ep for the week will be delayed to next week due to the news coverage of the Earthquake in Kumamoto prefecture. All 3 of those anime air on Friday's......

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion

I honestly don't see Toriyama using video game characters and plot to write his own. That's probably something they would do only after/if he stops writing. Well, Towa and Mira are his characters and his designs, provided as assets for a plot that he oversaw originally for Dragonball Online. The fa...

Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #38]

Tate's a weird one for me the more I see of him. There's no denying the guy knows how to use motion to make fights look good and for One Piece it works really well but for Dragon Ball? I think it's a bit too.... Loose, I guess? Not bad but there are definitely quite a few shots where the art looks ...

Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #38]

Film isn't about realism. It's about expressing an idea, however you feel like. If we're going to stick with 'realism' then we're going to have to completely disregard many episodes of the first three series (or across the entire Japanese animation industry) where Kanada-style movement is used for ...

Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #38]

Did anyone else notice when the episode One-Pieced Vegeta's arms and legs during his fight with Hit? I'm not seeing any long limbs in the Vegeta part of the episode. Though Tate's unique approach to movement was definitely born through working on One Piece, so perhaps that's where you're getting th...

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion

Only thing I haven't liked about this episode is Goku doing better in base then SSJB Vegeta, but awesome other wise!!!! I totally agree with you on that also another thing that bugged me is finding out monaca is an amateur and was used for motivational purpose for goku & vegeta to get stronger ...

Re: Mike's Upcoming JPNS Toy Releases Thread

I'm not sure about Jaco. I know he's been showcased, but there has definitely been more mainstream buzz about Super Saiyan 4 Goku. I hope we'll see him eventually, but we've seen quite a few figures be showcased but never released. Most infamously, this happened to Nappa, who, for a while, seemed li...

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō

I'm not convinced it's a time slot thing. I mean, One Piece airs right after it, and it's filled to the brim with blood. Either the blood was grandfathered in with One Piece (unlikely, given Kai was still bloody), or they have simply decided the show does not need it. It's not part of their vision ...

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō

The presence of more violence and graphic injuries in the old Dragonball Z anime has nothing to do with the show being aimed at a different target audience - but with a set of Japanese cultural attitudes that have became a lot more stringent over the last 20 years under increasing Western influence....

Re: Mike's Upcoming JPNS Toy Releases Thread

There's definitely been a Super Saiyan God figuart prototype - and I'd be amazed if it didn't get released. My theory is that they know it'll sell well, but their schedule has just been a little Goku heavy recently, what with SSGSS and the 'Super Saiyan Awakening' figure - especially if Super Saiyan...

Re: Mike's Upcoming JPNS Toy Releases Thread

Well, with Super's relevancy, Beerus, Whis and Super Saiyan Blue Goku & Vegeta out of the way, I'd say that Vados and Champa are a good bet.

I think Super Saiyan 4 Goku will be next, though, purely because they've showcased a prototype (again) recently in Mexico. It seems impending.
