Re: Biggest retcon in DragonBall?
How is SSJ3 a retcon or an asspull? I haven't heard this one before. You haven't? Goku fights Vegeta at his max, but then he pulls out SS3 in order to fight Buu on an even level. I don't really see how that's a retcon. Couldn't it be that Goku was just lying to Vegeta about fighting at max? Goku's ...

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Akira Toriyama stated that Goku could have turned Super Saiyan the moment he stepped foot on Namek. Which means that the bare minimum for turning Super Saiyan is 90, 000. Future Trunks was weaker than that and he turned SSJ. Then how in the blue blazes hasn't Goku transformed yet? He probably hasn'...

Re: DragonBall Z Abridged
A bit slow on the progress end of things but a super fast and fun episode in terms of jokes.
I'm guessing the rest of the season will look something like this:
58- Goku v Cell
59- Gohan v Cell ending with Super Season 2
60- Rest of the Cell Games (three parter probably)

Re: Dragon Ball: Anime or Manga?
I vastly prefer the manga. The anime really elevates a lot of moments like Goku turning SSJ as you said, but I find that the anime also ruins a lot of moments and completely destroys the series' pacing. I actually consider the anime to be quite a poor adaptation. The performances and music are great...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
I agree that maybe the two last arcs of Dragon Ball were full of dumb decisions, but I always felt like that was something to show these characters are not flawless and that's what made the story somewhat interesting in my point of view. I imagine you mean to get the plot moving by any means necess...

Re: Was Goku at his best or at his worst during the Cell and Boo arcs?
I think Cell and Boo arc Goku is him at his absolute best character wise. He's flawed but still consistent, he makes legitimate mistakes that are acknowledged in-universe and he just this sincere aura of maturity to him. In the Boo arc, especially, he comes off very wise without compromising his sel...

Re: Why did Piccolo save that little boy and his mother at the 23ed Budokai?
I agree with the above, and I also always thought of it as a sort of patch for the plothole of "just kill him when he's a baby" by showing that right up until the tournament he hadn't actually done anything evil (knowingly, anyway). Sort of a "if Goku had killed Piccolo 3 years ago, ...

Re: Opinion and discussion thread on Akira Toriyama.
I think Toriyama is a far better writer than people give him credit for. Maybe he is lazy, but his improv style of writing is exactly what made Dragon Ball so good. I genuinely believe that the original run's story is great. Does it have low points? Sure, but for the most part it's a very thematical...

Re: To End or Not to End
It is completed, the original story started with Pilaf and ended with Buu. no matter what we get afterwards, that original story will always have that beginning and ending. How can it do that when it's so different from the original and was released nearly 20 years later ? The problem with Super is...

Re: Is filler canon?
You're splitting hairs. And you aren't? Yes, I could've posed the question that way, the point remains the same. You don't have to be a stickler for battle powers to see how the scenario makes no sense. Here's the thing, though, and do follow me here, it does make sense. It makes a great deal of se...

Re: Is filler canon?
Sure, Piccolo "could have" defeated all of Freeza's forces, if that were his objective. However, Dragon Team's motive as a unit was to stall for time until Goku & Vegeta arrived. They stretched the battle with the soldiers out because they were attempting to avoid Freeza's direct invo...

Re: Are character deaths really pointless, when they all change the narrative?
Some character deaths are pointless. Chaozu's death is pointless in the Saiyan arc considering he never does anything beyond that. Tenshinhan and Yamcha dying could serve as a way to up the tension and showcase how threatening Nappa is and it's Piccolo's death that sets up the next arc. But Chaozu'...

Re: Goku's inconsistent characterization in regards to killing
Goku and killing in Super is very...odd. I feel like his actions regarding killing make a lot of sense in the original manga and serve the purpose of defining his character at different moments whether that be ruthlessness in the Red Ribbon Army arc, kindness after his training with Kami, or selfish...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
I think the Z anime is a terrible adaptation of the manga. The Saiyan and Namek arcs are absolute slogs to get through. I know a lot of people like the training filler before Vegeta and Nappa arrive, but I 100% hate it. I can only stand watching Gohan learn about life and death so many times before ...

Re: Why are Yamcha and Tenshinhan only in Movies 3 and 9?
I actually never noticed until now how non-present the side characters are in the movies. I knew Piccolo got phased out after a while but it never occurred to me that Tenshinhan and Yamucha had only been in two. I'd say a big reason why the non fighting characters like Kame-Senin, Yajirobe, and Oolo...
