Yeah Hiei has some really good ones, I like his ones with Naruto, Ace and Ichigo. Is the one with Sasuke against him or when they're on a team?

SaiyanZ wrote:As far as character unique dialog goes, I've picked up on these:
Goku vs Vegeta, Freeza and Korosensei
Goku with Vegeta, Freeza, Lala, Ace, Gon & Gintoki
Vegeta vs Goku, Freeza
Vegeta with Goku, Freeza, Arale
Freeza vs Goku, Vegeta, Luffy, Ryotsu, Jonathan
Freeza with Goku, Vegeta

Goku's interaction with Lala is something about her spazzing out and Goku telling her who he is. The one with Gon is about how Goku used Jajanken in the past, and Gon wants to compare their techniques.
Gintoki's are great
Gintoki: Hey, I'm Goku, Goku: What my names Goku too.
Lala: I'm Lala. Gintoki: what you said was boring so I only listed to half of it.
& Luckyman & Rytotsu Lucky:My Luck will win, Rytotsu: Really come with me, I know a great casino.

Also for those having trouble with supers every character has 4 supers. Circle, Circle + control stick forward, Circle + R1 & Circle in the air. It's annoying when the internet has no details on any of the characters movesets.
But for Goku, circle is Kamehameha, circle + R1 I can't figure out I think it's some sorta counter. Circle forward is a multi-hit combo & circle air is an air Kamehameha.
Also Luffy can use Second Gear Busoshoku Haki by using circle + R1 with the button held down in gear second mode and doing that again gives you Gum Gum Red Hawk.

If Dio, Jotaro, Dai and Yoh are really in the game, I'm glad.
I seriously doubt that they were scrapped data, since Dai partially belongs to Square Enix and they wouldn't scrap him after the trouble to get his rights.

Still, no Taikobou... I just need him to call the roster perfect.

So... this is my first imported PS3 game. Do I require a Japanese PSN account to play?
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

No. But you'll need an account to download DLC.

No. But you'll need an account to download DLC.
If I download the DLC, will it be available on the other profiles?
I have my main one that is linked to the EU PSN, a second linked to the US PSN and a third linked to the JPN PSN and I usually play with the first profile... could I download the DLC with the third account but play it in the game with the first one?

I remember hearing there was going to be no character DLC. Costume DLC maybe, but not whole characters.

In terms of a language barrier, the game is very import friendly. If you watched a lot of these shows chances are you know half the catch phrases coming out of the characters' mouths already.

In terms of actual pick up and play-ability, the game it self is very complex. . .almost needlessly so. There is a fantastic amount of polish and production value in the title but the game itself is some pretty sloppy business. In a mash up game like this, it would have been almost better to go the powerstone/smashbrothers route where characters have very simple to perform moves but use items and the environment to get the edge on the opponent. J-stars instead opts for a control scheme that rivals the complexity of the tenkaichi games but with a 2v2 format that emphasizes chaos and mayhem. The end result is something that is neither deep enough to be satisfying on a 1v1 level, nor is there enough of a focus on actual team work or strategy for it to work on a co-operative level.

An area where the game visibly stumbles is with basic fluid movement. It's hard to get to your opponent as your default jogging speed is slow to the point of being cumbersome. Yet the running dash is often too hard to control. The result is that movement is unintuitive feeling and can create some frustrating scenarios. By contrast, a game like Gundam vs Gundam Extreme Versus has such responsive movement that your character feels almost as an extension of your body. In J-stars it feels like the controls and movement options are fighting you.

It's an odd game to be sure but one that treads on familiar territory. While Battle of Z was intriguing for the new and bizarre mechanics it tried (to varying degrees of success), J-stars looks to be a sloppy execution of familiar ideas.

TL;DR: J-star's controls are way less intuitive than they should be and it gets in the way of the fun.

Anyone else pick up the game and have impressions to share?
Well shoot. I'm glad I held off on picking this thing up then. As much as I love all the characters on the roster, if the gameplay mechanics aren't up to snuff (as you've elaborated on) then this game is a huge no-no for me. Thank you for taking the time to post your impressions!

Would you say that Gundam vs. Gundam Extreme Versus is a worthwhile acquisition?

They've changed my life - changed the way I act on the earth. Doesn't that make them kind of real? They might be imaginary but, but they're more important than most of us here. And they're all gonna be around here long after we're dead. So, in a way, those things are more realer than any of us.

Gundam Vs Gundam Extreme Versus and its sequel are probably the best 3d arena based fighting games I've ever played. Couple that with the fact that you can get ExVs vanilla for under 30$ these days and you've got a pretty compelling argument for purchase.

I'm still spending time with J-stars and it could grow on me yet, but 80$ is a lot to spend on a game with as questionable mechanics as this one. I would love to hear from others on the subject though, I'd hate to be completely missing something. To be fair, Goku and Vegeta are some of the most fun to play as characters in the game. Transforming into Super Saiyan and unleashing a flurry of blasts is as satisfying as ever.

With the AniSong Sound Edition, are the songs included on the cartridge/disc, or are they redeemable DLC? I'd hate to buy the more expensive version for my Vita only to find I couldn't redeem the songs without a Japanese PSN or something.

They're on the cart on Vita (And the disc on PS3, but I don't have that version).
