I just registered because I wanted to know if there was any update on this and if Funimation ever got hold of the tapes. Otherwise what's the point of having them.

I've been communicating with Kei in private. Long story short, Kei has recorded the audio of about half the tapes, and we're on schedule to ship them to Texas before the end of the year. Christopher Sabat has confirmed with me that he will receive the tapes and is looking forward to having them.

Ah, this is great that you've put so much effort into all of this. I joined this forum originally in 2010 just because WillieD7 left a YouTube comment saying he had this dub recorded, and now everything has come (nearly) full circle.

According to the description for the videos the uploader got it from a private torrent tracker and that "recent rip" you're referring to was actually takarajima's version and wasn't supposed to have been uploaded at all, from what he told me takarajima only gave his version to certain users who helped him with his fansub digitization project, and even then he made those who did get it swear not to release it before a potential official release, and unfortunately one of the users who got it (he doesn't know who did it) went behind his back and leaked it online anyway (and he was not happy to learn it had been leaked either btw so thank you to the user who uploaded it for being a complete dick), the only reason I know this is because as soon as I found those youtube videos I sent him an email with the links for investigation (I had my suspicions since the source was different from WillieD7's rip) and he confirmed that it came from his copy and he only told me this stuff because I brought the leak to his attention, as for whether or not the full thing exists online that's anybody's guess at this point (and I highly doubt takarajima is going to want to share it with anybody else now that someone went and leaked it against his wishes).

They probably saw how much the Harmony Gold dub flopped and didn't think it'd be a wise investment to try it themselves and I honestly couldn't blame them for that logic since it would have been a pretty big gamble, heck even FUNi's first dub of DB (1995) failed to get enough of an audience for them to continue dubbing it and that one was made 6 years after Harmony Golds attempt.

Well there was DBZ. Other companies could have try to pick up DBZ instead of DB. Unless Toei's license agreement at the time would only allow DB first.

It probably made sense at the time story-wise to start from Dragon Ball, I don't think many international markets picked up DBZ before DB especially during the early 90s.

A coherent list of which countries aired DB and DBZ, when they aired and how long they aired for, we need that.

Well, I wasn't expecting to see my channel here. I made a transcript of what I could hear:

In the beginning of time, before the land or the water, (???) fire. A fire- But it's said they begin to (???) Dragon God, who can be called forth only when the seven magic Dragon Balls, are now scattered over the face of the (???) At that time, the Dragon God will appear (?) that found them, and grant them one wish. Then the balls will be scattered to the forewind, and the beast will return to its fiery lair-(???) And bring them together, once again.

Also I got a copyright claim from Toei. Fun fact: It's blocked in japan, for some reason.
