20th Anniversary Contest (The Aftermath)

Post by VegettoEX » Sun Jan 16, 2005 12:44 pm

We have a 100%-correct winner! Congrats go out to Daniel Yarbrough II.

Now that it's over, feel free to talk about anything and everything related to the contest. Just for the Hell of it, I'm 95% sure that our runner-ups were Chuquita with 98% and ~alakazam with 96% (and TripleRach right behind with 95%).

So all the answers are up, and even a blank page if you'd like to play along, again. Here are links to the individual sections:

** Winner Announcement & Original Rules

** Blank Images Page (to play along with, again)

** Answer Sheet

Discuss which ones you thought were far too easy, which ones were far too tough, and which ones made you laugh until you spit soda out your nose!

Thanks to the 80+ participants... it was a great time.

Congratulations! Also, does anyone else think the correct answer for #49 looks very... un-Toriyama like?

OUCH! THE PAIN!

I only scored 59. XP

EDIT: This contest was quite frustrating at times, because Akira Toriyama draws different characters exactly the same (like the one comparing Dragon Quest with one of the demons from Dragon Ball), but other times some were just complete guesses, and according to my score, I guessed wrong 41% of the time. XP

I got 82, although officially less because I messed up the count and typed in the wrong one on a few entries. XD But oh well, I had fun!

I didn't expect to win, but I figured I'd probably do fairly well. Those landscape ones were pretty hard.

About #49: That one was drawn really tiny originally, so it looks a lot worse zoomed in like that. Not that it was all that great in its original size either, but still.

And I still love #53. :D

#53 is my personal favorite, as well :D.

I was going for 80+, and... I did it. My final score was 82%. (Should've been 83, as I wrote down the wrong answer for 009, but that's no big deal.)

It was a good contest. I knew I wasn't going to win anyway. Good job Daniel! :)

Man, I got a 73. But that's because for some reason, around #64, I completely forgot that were were just looking for DB artwork. I even had "The World" right and front of me and verified a bunch of the pictures. If I had kept my head on straight and remembered that were were looking for ONLY DB images, I would have gotten an 83. It's no excuse, especially since I read the directions....twice, but oh well. 83 ain't bad, and neither is a 73.

It's still not a 100 though. Congrats to Daniel Yarbrough II!

Sort of misunderstood the contest as well... thought it was for Toriyama in general, and not specifically Dragon Ball. I was a bit tired when I did it, so enh :P . Got within the 80s to 90s just the same, so I did okay.

Congrats to winner. :)

Oh, and love for number 70.

Whoever drew the fake #69 copied it almost perfectly. The only difference I can see is Recoome's eyes.

I also forgot that it was only Dragon Ball and selected some from Neko Majin :\ Well, I wouldn't reach 100% anyway if I had those right  Congratulations Daniel (btw, is Daniel from the boards?).

I never thought some like this would turn up, I thought it was some kind of questionnaire... ^^; Well, it's was really fun

The kanji on Son Goku's gi is not drawn entirely though.

And by the by, where can one find some of the doujin used in the contest? o.o

Best contest ever, man. Really. Even though I got an awful score, 68.

The landscapes weren't the hardest stuff for me, actually. It was these doujinshii pictures... especially Head-Cha-La. Knowing DB doujinshiis would be the greatest help in this, actually. :P

I... I got so close. SO DAMN CLOSE. ARGH. MAD.

Anyway!

I found Toriyama's style to be quite easy to discern from about every doujinshi. The ones that tricked me were the two Majin Vegeta images, two landscape images, as well as that one pic of Goku kicking Uub. That was damn near identical.

So yeah, I think those were my only wrong guesses. Not that it matters, because I didn't win anyway, but I like to flaunt my ego and I'll be damned if I let this opportunity slip.

I also have super martial arts powers.

The doujinshi picture was also missing the white line that separates Goku's belt from his arm... things. If that line wasn't originally there, it sure wouldn't be there in a copied picture.

Ah, I missed only #20 and #85 >_<;;
Oh well, 2nd place isn't that bad

I gotta admit that was a really challenging contest. Especially using background images and the really convincing look-alikes (like the Head-Cha-La and Monthly Saiya ones)
