Favourite screams from various dubs

Post by TheRed259 » Thu May 09, 2024 3:48 am

Here are some screams that come to my mind quickly... maybe I'll remember more later.

- Goku's scream (Mario Castañeda) from the Latin American dub of episode 127 of Dragon Ball Z and episode 5 of Dragon Ball Super.
https://youtu.be/gudwxQI7zyc?t=61
https://youtu.be/eL6yJASrsr8?t=9

- Vegeta's scream (René García) from the Latin American dub of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'.
https://youtu.be/7vGjaoeMFGM?t=62
https://youtu.be/GzMvXtwNKoU?t=104

- Gohan's scream (Luis Manuel Ávila) from the Latin American dub of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.
https://youtu.be/2GoKx_E-m90?t=58

- Vegeta's scream (Eric Legrand) from the French dub of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods.
https://youtu.be/WvUZaHGAtcY?t=47

- Frieza's scream (Philippe Ariotti) from the French dub of Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'.
https://youtu.be/kN1Iek9Xvl0?t=3309

- The beginning of these 2 Vegeta's screams (Yiannis Papaioannou) from the Greek dub of episode 228 of Dragon Ball Z.
https://youtu.be/ISSCMsU9dT4?t=18
https://youtu.be/HT3eXROKwXw?t=3

- Vegeta's scream (Gianluca Iacono) from the Italian dub of episode 7 of Dragon Ball Super.

I like most of them because of the liveliness they have and also the special timbre of the actors' voices. Post some of your favourite screams as well.

Brian Drummond killing it in 1996 and 2017.

Also say what you will about Sean Schemmel but even in the original Z dub his screams were insane.

This is from Kai. The one who made the video just put Bruce Faulconer's music over that scene.

Damn should have double checked, still don't get why people feel the Faulconer Productions score was needed in Kai, I'd honestly take Sumitomo over it any day.

At the moment, from other dubs than mine, I remember these two damn good screams that Claudio Moneta did as Goku:

The first one is from DBS, when he fights against Hit and goes SSB + Kaioken, I felt some Paolo Torrisi vibes (Adult Goku's first Italian VA) on that scream.
https://youtu.be/D5VBew3exx4?si=UrdLfOuN1J6Oq4GA (2:17)

The second one is from DBS Broly, when he goes SSB against Broly. The way he changes the intensity of the scream is amazing:

He was definitely amazing as Vegeta, specially at the early arcs.

Here's one particular scream (or I mean, a powerful rant) I liked from his Vegeta:

You can really feel the intense rage through that high pitched voice with a subtle raspiness.

Despite being someone who generally DESPISES Dragon Ball's various English dub casts for a whole multitude of reasons, there's one particular moment from the 1996-98 FUNimation dub (the "Ocean dub", as it's so often erroneously referred to by legions of misinformed internet denizens) that I feel features a pretty decent battle yell.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gZvQXNujuc

As much as I find Brian Drummond's annoyingly high-pitched and nasally Starscream/Skeletor-esque Saturday morning cartoon henchman villain voice to be deeply insufferable and horrid, the yell he emits when charging up his Ki to engage Reacoom isn't half bad. It of course is nothing anywhere NEAR what Horikawa Ryō was capable of producing on his worst day, but it's probably one of the few decent-sounding Kiai battle yells in a dub FILLED with voice actors that had NO FUCKING CLUE how to do them lol (and I'm including the in-house FUNi VAs alongside the Ocean VAs in that statement, since they were the direct successors to the Ocean cast in 1999 due to FUNimation's infamous, and severely debilitating, extreme frugality at the time).

Side note:
Ironically though, his voice gets noticeably deeper when he does that particular yell, to the point it actually doesn't even really fit with his usual nasally speaking voice for Vegeta, and kinda comes off, for lack of a better term, as a touch out of character (yeah, I know that's not the best definition of that term, but you get what I mean). So the yell itself is ONLY semi-decent and tolerable BECAUSE it barely sounds like the way he normally voices the character, so one could certainly argue that that's not really even a good thing lmaooo

I must say that I am surprised that no one has yet mentioned anything from the Future Trunks saga. There are so many bone-chilling screams.

James Marsters as Zamasu:

James Marsters as Zamasu again:

Sean Schemmel as Goku Black:

In fact, the voice acting alone easily makes DBS at least a 6/10 series. Such good voice acting to listen to.

I feel James Masters was one of the best things to happen to the franchise, It's really hard not to like his performance in super.

This forum is so over-dramatic that it's not even funny.

I wonder if he would have been cast if Evolution wasn't made?

I know James Marsters is apparently a huge fan (and I believe there's a reference in Buffy?) but him needing a redemption for the franchise probably sealed the deal.

I was going to mention that too, Evolution may be the worst thing ever, but so much good came out of it. Even if Super is mediocre, Toriyama giving content before he left is a blessing, no ifs or buts about it.

Dragonball Evolution was bad but its far from the worst thing ever. Dirty Grandpa makes it look like a masterpiece

Got to agree the movie was a blessing in disguise for this franchise even just to have Toriyama return to writing Dragon Ball. I'm also glad for the dubs Tian got from Evolution.
