The Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods “Original Soundtrack” was only just announced a few short days ago, and while cover art was revealed, no track listing was provided beyond the inclusion of the two main vocal songs from FLOW (“CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA” and “HERO ~Song of Hope~”).

FLOW and Sony Music Japan unveiled the full track listing for the soundtrack today, and we can see why it was held back for a while: there are plenty of mentions of the new “Super Saiyan God” form that has been teased for the movie!

  1. The Blackness of Space (Awakening of the God of Destruction)
  2. A Bad Feeling
  3. Our Hero, Son Goku (~ “CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA” (Main Title))
  4. Birusu’s Approaching Shadow (Birusu and Uisu)
  5. Birusu’s Approaching Shadow (Birusu’s Prophetic Dream)
  6. Bulma’s Birthday Party
  7. Birusu, God of Destruction, Appears
  8. Kaiō in a Panic
  9. HERO (Goku’s Curiosity)
  10. Super Saiyan 3’s Power
  11. Earth’s Crisis
  12. A Memory Recalled
  13. Birusu’s Approaching Shadow (Vegeta’s Unease)
  14. A Super-Deluxe Prize
  15. The Pilaf Gang Arrives
  16. The Pilaf Gang is Driven Off
  17. A Sad-Yet-Foolish Memory
  18. Birusu’s Approaching Shadow (Seeking Out the Super Saiyan God)
  19. The Curtain Opens on a Bingo Tournament
  20. The Pilaf Gang Arrives (Baby Gang)
  21. Birusu’s Wrath

  39. Certain Death
  40. The Eternal Universe (Parting)
  41. The Blackness of Space (After the Battle)
  42. CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA (A Peaceful Earth)
  43. CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA

Other story elements confirmed or teased by the titles on the list include Bulma’s birthday party (first hinted at during the movie’s panel at Jump Festa ’13), Pilaf and his gang, etc. What is this “One More Saiyan” that is also hinted at…?

Sony’s posting currently contains a typo of ゴット (gotto) instead of ゴッド (goddo) for Track #18, and “CHA-LA HAED-CHA-LA” for Track #42; this has been corrected in all of our listings.

The 43-track soundtrack for the movie (KSCL-2109), with music by Norihito Sumitomo, is due out 27 March 2013 (three days before the film hits theaters) for a pretty standard ¥2,800.

The full track listing for the soundtrack, including the original Japanese text and romanizations, can be found on the “Movie Music” page of our “Music Database“.

Thanks to our buddy kei17 for the heads-up!

A new preview trailer for the upcoming film, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, aired earlier today on Fuji TV.

While much of the trailer audio is buried under FLOW’s rendition of “CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA” and the TV host’s narration, two lines from Birusu, God of Destruction, and Goku can be heard:

ビルス 「地球は破壊させてもらおう」
孫悟空 「破壊を楽しんでんじゃねえぞーー!」

Birusu: I’ll have the pleasure of destroying Earth.
Son Goku: Destruction ain’t somethin’ t’ take pleasure in——!

In addition to many of the previous story bits we have seen in the prior trailer and had revealed over the last few weeks, this new preview gives us a glimpse of Goku in a sweet track suit up at Kaiō’s, Piccolo apparently singing karaoke, Gohan as Great Saiyaman, Majin Boo attacking Birusu, Goku in action as Super Saiyan 3 against Birusu, and a glimpse of an Ōzaru, as well as a tease of the new “Super Saiyan God” form.

This is the typical cycle for these types of new previews; before the clean, final version makes its way to official outlets, Fuji TV gets a sneak-peek airing on morning news- and entertainment-digest shows such as Mezamashi TV with some additional narration on top.

The April 2013 issue of V-Jump, released today in Japan, teases something — apparently a new “form” — called “Super Saiyan God” for the upcoming film, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, due out 30 March 2013:

The legend among legends — what is “Super Saiyan God”?!

The mightiest warriors in the universe, the “Saiyans”. The mightiest being, passed down to this people holding wondrous legends –. That is “Super Saiyan God”!!

Just what sort of form is it, with what kind of strength?! The answer will be revealed at the theater…!!

So what is this new “Super Saiyan God” form…?! It is worth noting that it is written out as 超サイヤ人ゴッド (Sūpā Saiya-jin Goddo), using the English word “god”. The issue goes on to explain:

The Oracle Fish’s revelation holds the key!!
39 years ago, the Oracle Fish foretold the appearance of the “Super Saiyan-God” to Birusu, God of Destruction. This revelation hastened the God of Destruction’s awakening, and is the genesis of this tale…!!

That is the extent of story-related information in this latest issue of V-Jump. We are a little over a month out from the movie’s release at this point, and things are certainly heating up!

The official “Battle of Gods” website has announced a new collaboration with Albirex Niigata, a Japanese J-League Division 1 football (soccer) team. A new poster has been unveiled, and will be on display across Niigata Prefecture, in promotion of their upcoming match on 03 March 2013 with the defending J-League Division 1 champions, Sanfrecce Hiroshima. The poster is based on the official Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods poster, with the movie characters replaced by the football team’s players, a new title similar to those created with the movie’s official “Moji Maker Z”, and a similar slogan: “Starting with the Strongest”. The figure in the background replacing “Uisu” is the team’s manager Masa’aki Yanagishita, “Birusu” appears to have been replaced by the Sanfrecce Hiroshima goalkeeper Shūsaku Nishikawa, and Son Goku has been replaced by the team’s forward Bruno Lopes.

In addition, all supporters at the match will be emblazoned in orange to promote the team and Son Goku, who will make an appearance at the stadium, and the Dragon Ball Z theme song will be used to rouse even more support. A team spokesman, along with the team’s forwards Bruno Lopes and Tatsuya Tanaka, released comments about the recently announced collaboration and their adoration for the Dragon Ball series. Bruno Lopes, who is originally from Brazil and a noted “big fan” of the series, said that the series is still very popular in his homeland, so he is really happy and touched to be involved with it in Japan.

The on-going promotional mini-manga for the Dragon Ball Heroes arcade game (and upcoming Nintendo 3DS port) returns for a sixth chapter in the April 2013 issue of V-Jump released today in Japan.

When we last left our heroes, Beat and Froze were moving on to the final battle at Heroes Stadium in Satan Mall after a display of Super Saiyan 3 characters against Freeza’s clan. In this latest, 4-page chapter of Dragon Ball Heroes: Victory Mission, “Clash! Beat vs. Froze” (激突!ビートVSフローズ / Gekitotsu! Biito VS Furōzu), the final match begins with Froze swapping up his deck almost completely, while Beat wants to fight to the end with the companions he believes in. A girl shows up and mutters that Beat is going to lose — Beat does not recognize Forte, though. As Beat unsuccessfully tries to land a hit, Forte gives some backstory on Froze: he became Forte’s area representative in the last year’s preliminary; she was surprised by the overwhelming strength Froze used, and did not think she stood a chance. Yet, for some reason, Froze did not go to the nationals. Just then Froze draws a “Z” in the sky. His avatar says, “Card Action Ability: Z”… and the chapter comes to a close!

The mini-manga by the mysterious author “Toyotarō” seems to be a staple of V-Jump at this point. This latest chapter has been cataloged on our “Official Manga Spin-offs” page of the “Manga Guide“.

Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission for the Nintendo 3DS does not hit Japanese shelves for another week, but Famitsu has handed down their verdict: 8/9/8/8, for a total of 33 out of 40 potential points from the four reviewers.

dbheroes_3ds_cover

While I have finally jumped on the American 3DS bandwagon, it has been tough to justify double-dipping on a Japanese model, which is essential for playing the game now that Nintendo has instituted region-locking. Fear not, though, for our own Herms is outfitted with the necessary hardware and is ready for when the game drops 28 February 2013. Much like he was able to cover Attack of the Saiyans long before its international release, look forward to our coverage of Ultimate Mission here on the site and podcast… especially since there is still no word on an (increasingly unlikely) international release for this one!

Back at the beginning of the year we outlined all of the upcoming releases for the Dragon Ball franchise for at least the first couple months of 2013. Even more products have been revealed since then, and it can be a challenge to keep track of everything. You told us it was helpful and we found it helpful for our own purposes, so let’s dive back in!

Similar to the last go-around, please note that some items do not have an official release date announced just yet — additional products like Project Versus J on the PlayStation 3 & Vita will make their way into the schedule eventually, as well as any additional Battle of Gods merchandise that gets pumped out the door. For now, these are the confirmed items up through the end of April. As always, let us know if you foreign folks have anything else coming your way that we can add to the list.

Today’s issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump in Japan (2013 #12) spills the beans on a massive amount of additional promotions for the Dragon Ball franchise coming soon to Japan.

As a part of the lead-up to the upcoming film, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods (set for release 30 March 2013), three satellite channels (Toei Channel, Fuji TV Two Drama/Anime, and Animax) will be airing all thirteen Dragon Ball Z movies along with the Bardock and Trunks TV specials.

A new, multi-pronged promotion will be taking place at Lawson and Mini Stop convenience stores and Aeon malls. Starting 12 March 2013, by traveling to the different stores, you can collect stamps with characters’ “cool faces” on them. With receipts from Lawson, Mini Stop, or Aeon, you can enter to win valuable prizes.

Beginning one week earlier, on 05 March 2013, there will be an opportunity to win a Mitsubishi i-MiEV electric vehicle in Capsule Corporation livery — you will have a chance to enter by going to the promotion site and taking a quiz.

Beginning 12 March 2013, by downloading the “Get Them! Dragon Balls!” app for iOS or Android and going around to the three stores, you can begin collecting Dragon Balls. Gather all seven together, and something will happen!

As for new products, one of 12 different earphone jack figures will come with Kirin Beverages’ new “FIRE Smoked Coffee BLACK” drink starting 12 March 2013. Things kick off again even sooner, though, on 28 February 2013 with the second round of Dragon Ball toys at KFC included with “Smile Set” kids meals:

  • “Fusion Spoon & Fork” (a fork on one end, a spoon on the other)
  • “Nyoi-bō Chopstick Set” (orange chopsticks and a cloth pouch shaped like Goku’s dōgi)
  • “Hoi-Poi Capsule “Compact Towel” (which comes in a little package but spreads out to full size by soaking in water, after which you can use it)
  • Two kinds of mini-lunch cases

We have been waiting for quite some time for a reveal of the cover art for FLOW’s upcoming “double A-side” CD single featuring “CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA” and “HERO ~Song of Hope~”, the main theme and insert song (respectively) for the upcoming film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. We knew the first pressing would come with a bonus illustration, and we knew the track listing… but that was it!

The band and Ki/oon Music have revealed not only the cover art for the “Limited Edition First-Pressing Version” (with the Dragon Ball characters) and the “Limited Edition Regular Version” (with the band drawn in Toriyama-style), but also the cover art for another CD that had not actually even been announced yet: the original soundtrack for Battle of Gods!

The Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods Original Soundtrack (KSCL-2109) is due out 27 March 2013 (three days before the film hits theaters) for a pretty standard ¥2,800. The CD will contain the “Soundtrack Version” (presumably short versions) of both FLOW songs, though nothing else is currently listed in terms of musical content, number of tracks, etc.

The CD single (KSCL-2209), as revealed earlier this month, is due out 20 March 2013 for ¥1,350.

Placing all three CDs side by side results in a complete image of Shenlong.

First pressings of both the CD single and the soundtrack will come with a limited edition designed Dragon Ball Heroes card.
