Animations

First TV Series Animation

Usage: Dragon Ball Super Episodes 001-018
The first of the series’ opening animations draws its inspiration from the character’s transition into a somewhat more normal lifestyle following the defeat of Majin Boo, while also foreshadowing some of the events to come. The animation provides brief foreshadowing glimpses of Goku’s Super Saiyan God transformation, as well as the appearance of Champa and Vados from Universe 6. This first opening animation is the basis for every other “Chōzetsu ☆ Dynamic!” based opening animation used during the TV series.

Second TV Series Animation

Usage: Dragon Ball Super Episodes 019-024
The second opening animation used for the TV series is a slightly modified version of the first TV series animation. The three significant changes include Jaco’s appearance at Capsule Corporation as Vegeta and Trunks spar, the addition of Golden Freeza and his men, and the brief foreshadowing glimpses of Goku’s Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan transformation instead of simply Super Saiyan God. The closing group scene has also been updated to reflect the characters current outfits, with Videl now holding baby Pan and the backdrop changed to outer space. This new opening animation coincides with Sorbet and Tagoma reviving Freeza with the Earth’s Dragon Balls.

Third TV Series Animation

Usage: Dragon Ball Super Episodes 025-027
The third opening animation used for the TV series is a very slightly modified version of the second TV series animation. The only change is Goku transforming into a Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan after flying into the closing group scene. This new opening animation coincides with Goku displaying this transformation in the previous episode.

Fourth TV Series Animation

Usage: Dragon Ball Super Episodes 028-031
The fourth opening animation used for the TV series is a combination of the first, second, and third TV series animations, along with a change to the closing group scene. The scene featuring Golden Freeza and his men from the second TV series animation has been removed and replaced with the original scene featuring Mister Satan, Jaco, Gotenks, and Majin Boo as seen in the first TV series animation. Although this original scene has returned, Jaco’s appearance at Capsule Corporation as Vegeta and Trunks spar remains intact. The closing group scene remains nearly identical to that of the third TV series animation, but features the addition of Vegeta transforming into a Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan after flying in to stand next to Goku. This new opening animation coincides with the beginning of the God of Destruction Champa story arc.

Fifth TV Series Animation

Usage: Dragon Ball Super Episodes 032-046
The fifth opening animation used for the TV series is a modified version of the fourth TV series animation, but includes a short sequence featuring Champa’s tournament warriors from Universe 6 in place of the Mister Satan and Jaco scene. It also features Monaka’s appearance at Capsule Corporation next to Jaco as Vegeta and Trunks spar. This new opening animation coincides with the beginning of the Gods of Destruction Selection Tournament.

Sixth TV Series Animation

Usage: Dragon Ball Super Episodes 047-067
The sixth opening animation used for the TV series is a modified version of the previous animations with major updates in the standard spots. Pan in a highchair has been added to the scene with Gohan and Videl early on, while the middle portion sports a new replacement showcasing Trunks, Mai, Goku Black, and Zamasu. The rest of the animation remains identical from before until the very end, which closes on a split screen with the new characters that is eventually overlaid by the Pilaf gang. This new opening animation coincides with the beginning of the Future Trunks arc.

Seventh TV Series Animation

Usage: Dragon Ball Super Episodes 068-076
The seventh opening animation used for the TV series is a combination of almost all previous animations. The majority of this animation is based on the opening’s first animation, with minor updated scenes included from the subsequent animations. These updated scenes include Monaka’s appearance at Capsule Corporation next to Jaco as Vegeta and Trunks spar, Pan sitting in a highchair, the brief foreshadowing glimpses of Goku’s Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan transformation, and the ending shot with Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta flying in to join Goku. This new opening animation coincides with the end of the Future Trunks arc.
