Episode Summary
Opening
When seven magic Dragon Balls are collected and the password is recited, a dragon named Shenlong appears to grant the summoner any wish.
Son Goku is an incredible warrior who lived in the mountains as a child, searched for the Dragon Balls while going on many adventures, and grew into adulthood with his new friends.
One day a vicious battle race called the Saiyans arrived on Earth — it seems that Goku was himself a Saiyan that had been sent to Earth as an infant. Saiyans maintain a youthful body for much of their lives.
Throughout his life, Goku continued to face terrifying enemies and overcome these challenges to protect Earth. Now the Earth faces a new threat…
Part A
The new young girl asks how Goku can be so strong if he’s just a kid. He trained, of course! What’s training? Well… training is training. She then notices his ears are round, and wonders what race he is. Goku responds that he’s a Saiyan, and when pressed further, Glorio interrupts and says that he’s from the Second Demon World.
Kaiōshin and Goku are still impressed with the girl, even though she messed up back there in the village (but that’s only because the gunpowder in her Wasabi Bomb was damp).
Glorio is ready to move on, but the girl keeps pressing: where are they heading? Goku lets slip that they’re heading to the castle. She seems familiar with Kadan Castle, wonders why they’re heading there, and keeps following along. She apparently knows how to get there.
Back in the village, the military force starts waking up and seeking out the brat that beat them up. One of them asks about his collar, but another responds that it was so sudden, they couldn’t confirm his collar. They’re all tasked with seeking out a spiky-haired kid with a red stick!
The girl asks if Goku’s hungry, and offers him a rice ball. Kaiōshin finally asks her name; it’s Panzy. Goku thinks that’s a weird name, but Panzy thinks his name is even weirder! Goku says his other name is Kakarrot, and Panzy remarks that both of his names are weird. Panzy then asks what magic Goku is good at, since every Majin can use at least one magic spell. Goku thinks about this for a brief moment, and showcases that he can touch his nose with his tongue. Panzy is less than impressed, and concentrates hard to showcase her own talent: struggling extremely hard to raise a rock off the ground. As Panzy heaves in recovery, Goku expresses his amazement. Her specialty is actually tinkering with machines, though!
As a dragon swoops overhead, Panzy asks more about the group. Kaiōshin shares his name as Shin, and Panzy recognizes him as a Glind. She goes on to share that Gomah’s second-in-command, that Degesu guy, is a Glind and kinda like Shin here. Kaiōshin shrugs it off as Panzy continues on about how the Glinds left to the outside world a long time ago, but apparently kids like him are still around. What’s he doing around here, anyway? Kaiōshin says he’s just journeying, but Panzy thinks that’s fishy, since hardly anyone comes around to the Third Demon World unless they’re on business. Glorio shuts the conversation down right there. Panzy pushes further again, asking his name. Glorio says quiet, but Goku chimes in (with the wrong name yet again).
The group arrive at a split in the roadway, and Panzy convinces them to take a shortcut through the rocky direction. Kaiōshin brings up the awful military force and how they’re draining life from folks who can’t pay up. Panzy remarks how cruel it is to pull up to nine years off someone’s life, and how Dabra was bad, but even he was better than Gomah. The average lifespan is only 1,000 years after all! Goku wonders if that’s more than enough, and asks how old Panzy is. She’s 82… which is older than he is!
The group arrive at a cliff overlooking a giant chasm and animal skeleton below, followed by a montage of clips passing through different terrain. They finally arrive at Kadan Castle… and Goku thinks it doesn’t look very impressive! Panzy takes offense, and says it’s pretty impressive for the Third Demon World! Kaiōshin wonders about the king, to which Glorio responds to think of him like an uncivilized mafia boss. Panzy says he’s not that bad; he only steals from criminals and only kills bad guys! Glorio is ready to hear him out and borrow an airplane. Goku is ready to hurry up and rescue Dende!
Back over in the First Demon World, a strange demon caretaker reads half-heartedly to the baby Dende. Gomah walks in and tells them to try again… this time with a little emotion! This is an important little Namek who is eventually going to make new Dragon Balls for them, after all! The caretaker ramps up the performance.
Glorio and the others walk up to the castle, and the two guards have seemingly already forgot about Glorio being here yesterday. He’s back to speak with the king. The guards ask about the brats with him, at which point Panzy makes herself known. It’s the princess! Welcome home! Panzy says it’s this kind of attitude that makes people think they’re like the mafia. Everyone enters (Goku and Kaiōshin giving their regards on the way in), and Kaiōshin says Panzy could have told them about herself sooner. Goku doesn’t think she seems like a princess. The group gets a little tour on the way in, watching all sorts of demons performing different tasks like gardening, cooking, and sparring. Panzy knocks at a big door and announces the guests here for her father.
A scary giant demon raises a spiked club and swings away causing an explosion, ready to greet his guests.
Part B
The giant demon — King Kadan — walks in to greet his guests, sits on his throne, and demands: wasn’t this guy supposed to bring someone who was powerful enough to defeat Majin Boo?! Glorio responds that these are them. They’re just brats! Kaiōshin says he’s not as powerful as Goku here, of course, but he’s accompanying him. Panzy walks forward and says she saw Goku take out the military force; he truly is strong, and even rescued her! The king thanks them for them. Panzy inquires about her dad asking that they bring Goku here, but it turns out that Glorio is the one who approached the king saying he could fetch someone from the outside world who could defeat Gomah. Kaiōshin side-eyes Glorio again.
Panzy just now pieces together they’re from the outside world, which is why Goku’s ears are round! Panzy can’t get over how someone from the outside world is so strong and can fly so easily; Goku reiterates it’s because he trained. Kaiōshin addresses the king, asking if he wants Gomah defeated. That’s correct — Gomah can’t be allowed to run free, and is a villain who shouldn’t be the Supreme Demon King! Once he’s defeated, King Kadan will become the Supreme Demon King, all in the name of peace for the Demon Realm! King Kadan says that if things go as planned, he can marry Panzy… who says that’s not his decision to make. He didn’t mean right now, though… when she grows up! Goku says he’s already married and has kids. King Kadan and Panzy can’t believe that he’s an adult, so Kaiōshin explains that Gomah turned them into children. To return to normal, they need to rescue their friend Dende (who Gomah kidnapped), or gather the Demon Realm’s Dragon Balls. This gets a reaction all over again, since they’d have to fight the Tamagami to do so. That’s the plan! Goku says it’s only three, so it should be pretty easy. Panzy notes that no-one has ever gathered all three Demon Realm Dragon Balls before, and that the Tamagami are so strong that even Gomah couldn’t do it! Goku’s fine with all that. King Kadan thinks to himself that if they truly defeated Majin Boo, they might actually pull this off. Glorio inquires about borrowing that airplane, since theirs was stolen. Before that, King Kadan wants to see just how strong they are, and asks for a demonstration from Goku, who is happy to oblige.
King Kadan introduces his courtyard to this small little warrior: if they fight him and win, they’ll get a raise! Kaiōshin warns Goku that they seem to be pretty seasoned warriors, and he’s not in his prime in this small body. Goku says he’ll be fine; it’s good training. King Kadan says no holding back, but no killing; Goku’s actually fine with weapons, as long as there are no guns. The whole gang is resentful now of this cocky little brat, but Goku takes them all on at once. With a slew of leg sweeps, hops, punches, and more, Goku handily takes out a number of fighters. Even the weapons are useless, as Goku dodges them all and breaks anything he connects with. Eventually a group of fighters swarm Goku at once to hold him in place, but Goku smirks and turns Super Saiyan for a brief moment, knocking them all away! One last sword swipe comes in, but Goku flashes away at the last second, flicking the owner in the forehead. The last standing fighter surrenders, and it’s all over! Everyone (Glorio included) is shocked.
King Kadan starts loading up an airplane for the group, apologizing for it being all he has right now. One of the workers is asked about having finished rewriting the data, and Kaiōshin wonders what this means. Since it’s not the same airplane Glorio had registered, Warp-sama won’t let them through with the same PIN anymore, so they fiddled with the data a little bit. Kaiōshin then asks about some friends of theirs coming to help in a few days, but who don’t have a PIN of their own. There’s nothing King Kadan can do about that, so he asks a twirling little demon — Hybis — for help. Hybis is in the middle of ballet lessons, but sure, OK, whatever. King Kadan asks Hybis to go to the outside world and fetch the friends of these folks. Hybis was about to go to the beauty parlor, though, but again — OK. Kaiōshin explains that it’s a planet called Earth in Universe 7, and Goku adds on that everyone is at a temple that floats in the sky. Hybis thinks a Majin going to a temple is a tall order, but pulls out a device and starts looking, eventually settling right on the exact spot. They’ll need a mid-sized airplane, but all that’s left are small ones.
Panzy walks by with a full cargo load of her own, intent on traveling with the group. She wants to see Gomah go down, and she’s good at machines, anyway! Goku asks if Glorio is good with machines; he admits he is not, so Panzy is good to come with them!
Kaiōshin takes Goku aside and says that Glorio is definitely hiding something from them; Kadan didn’t know they had been turned into children, and Glorio specifically said he had been requested by the king, but from the sounds of things earlier it was Glorio who himself approached the king. Goku wonders if that really matters, and the group takes off!
Glorio says that it should take them about four days with occasional breaks to get to this Demon World’s Dragon Ball. Goku has a hard time thinking about sitting around that long, and Panzy explains that the third Demon World is the biggest one in the Demon Realm. Suddenly the plane’s engine starts popping off, and it seems someone brought a little too much with them…
The plane crashes down below…

Episode Notes
- Episodes 1 and 4 included traditional title cards, whereas episodes 2 and 3 put the respective episode title overtop ongoing footage. Episode 5 falls in line with the latter, including the episode title in the bottom of the screen overtop ongoing footage.
Character & Location Names
-
King Kadan (カダン王; kadan-ō)
First referred to by name back in episode 3, King Kadan is actually seen here in episode 5 for the first time. In line with other plant-based names in the series, “Kadan” likely takes his name from the Japanese word for “flower bed” (花壇; kadan). -
Hybis (ハイビス; haibisu)
In line with other plant-based names in the series, “Hybis” takes their name from “hibiscus” (ハイビスカス; haibisukasu). As the character’s name is the same set of characters as-is from the literal word, “Hibis” would likewise be a reasonable transliteration/spelling. -
Nemophy Gang (ネモフィ一味; nemofi-ichimi)
In line with other plant-based names in the series, the “Nemophy” gang takes their name from “nemophila” (ネモフィラ; Nemofira).
Translation & Language
- What is rendered seemingly as a proper, capitalized noun in the official English simulcast subtitles as “Collar” (that the military force wants to check after their defeat as Goku’s hands) is spoken aloud in Japanese as 首輪 (kubiwa), which can refer to a collar placed around an animal (such as livestock).
- Goku refers to “Kakarrot” simply as “another” (もうひとつ; mō hitotsu) name.
- Panzy refers to Degesu’s rank with regard to Gomah as “Adjutant” (副官; fukkan), a direct subordinate to the commanding officer, who assists in communication and in carrying out orders.
Staff & Cast
- Reimi makes their debut in the Dragon Ball franchise as Hybis.
- Tarō Yamaguchi and Toshiya Chiba carry over their roles from the previous episode as military police.
- Maki Tsuruta plays the babysitter in what might be her first Dragon Ball role.
- Shunsuke Kanie plays a gatekeeper at Castle Kadan in what might be his first Dragon Ball role.
- Yasunao Sakai plays a gatekeeper at Castle Kadan, carrying on with minor roles such as a military police role in the previous episode.
- Jōichirō Ōtsuki plays a vassal in what might be his first Dragon Ball role.
- Ryō Yaginuma plays a demon, carrying on with minor roles such as in the previous episode.
- Shūki Imagawa plays a demon, carrying on with minor roles such as a military police member in the previous episode.
- Ryōhei Kitsunai plays a weak demon in what might be his first Dragon Ball role.
Animation Alterations
Various scenes were altered in composition, special effects, and/or for content between initial trailers and the final episode broadcast. These include (but are not limited to) the following scenes. The initial trailer scenes are shown below, which you can hover over to view the scene as it was eventually seen within the episode.
-
Similar to her unmasking in the prior episode, Panzy’s face has been smoothed out between the trailer and final broadcast episode.
-
Tiny bits of animation, background elements, and general compositing has been updated between the trailer and final broadcast episode as the group comes up on the cliff looking down over the giant animal skeleton.
-
The swirling pan shot as the group comes up over Kadan Castle has been adjusted to tone down some of the lighting between the trailer and final broadcast episode.
-
The shot of Gomah’s castle has been updated in a wealth of different ways, including a shift from a simple pan shot to a light zoom, with different details among the rocks and such as well, between the trailer and final broadcast episode.
-
The initial shot of Kadan’s face is actually more obscured in the final broadcast episode compared to the trailer.
-
Minor adjustments to Hybis’ sleeves and fingernails have been made between the trailer and final broadcast episode.
