Interval Special: V-Jump July 2024 Issue – Toyotarō Drawing1

■ V-Jump:

DRAGON BALL SUPER INTERVAL SPECIAL: A special project where we analyze the Super Hero arc of the Dragon Ball Super manga!!

VOL.2 — FEATURING: Masters and Students

Special Illustration by Toyotarō-sensei: Gohan Beast

Comment by Toyotarō-sensei:
Since, unlike in the movie version, I didn’t draw the scene of Gohan Beast smiling during the battle with Cell Max, I now drew him smiling fearlessly. Gohan really is pretty cool when he’s enraged! Since I managed to devote just the right amount of pages to Gohan’s character in the manga version of the Super Hero arc, I was able to more accurately portray the change in his heart that Toriyama-sensei wanted to show. I’d be really happy if you could all pay close attention to it!

Gohan and Piccolo both had big roles in the Super Hero arc. The trigger to Gohan’s awakening were the deep bonds between master and student! This time around, we’re putting the spotlight on the relationships between masters and students that had an influence on each character’s growth!!

Starting next page, we will review the relationships between all the masters and students in Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Super!!

In this second installment, we will take a deep dive into “masters and students”! We will be presenting the various masters Goku trained under and the miraculous master-student relationship between Gohan and Piccolo!!

The following translator notes are included for the benefit of the reader as supplemental information.

1 While the primary content of this “Interval Special” series was printed within the July 2024 issue of V-Jump, a supplemental promotional article was posted on the Dragon Ball Official Site on the magazine’s release day (as is done every month for V-Jump) which contained a clean version of the drawing, shown above here on this page.
