The "techno Buu" theme returns before Buu eats Dabura. The episode ends with Vegeta destroying Babidi's ship, but it doesn't reveal that it was him.

Quite a good episode, The techno buu theme fit better now. The orchestral tiny cue before it enhanced it. However no new tracks.

Wow why is thread so dead? I guess people don't really care about Kai anymore.
Re: Kai Episode 118 (24 August 2014)
I'm finally done, yeah. I didn't even bother to finish last night's episode.
I'll probably chime in during the iconic moments but I'm just not interested anymore.
EDIT: Not to say that the episode was bad. It wasn't.

That's certainly the case, yes.JEFFMAN219 wrote: I guess people don't really care about Kai anymore.
And for the episode itself, it wasn't bad at all, I enjoyed it.Can't wait for the next two episodes now... *ç*
Yep, and the sound level seemed quieter this time...it still a very weird track anyway.Black_Liger wrote:The techno buu theme fit better now.

Wow did that Majin Boo track from last week killed it for you?AjayLikesGaming wrote:I'm finally done, yeah. I didn't even bother to finish last night's episode.

Re: Kai Episode 118 (24 August 2014)
That probably contributed to it but no, it wasn't really the main reason.
I'm just bored, honestly. Nothing is really doing it for me anymore. One great moment out of a bunch of mediocrity peppered with shit loads of awful is not worth my time. I feel like it's had its chance now and it's really not going to change much over the upcoming episodes. Boo's appearance was always going to be the decider since, much like the appearance of Yamu and Spopovich at the tournament, it presents a big tone shift. I really enjoyed a lot of the moments back during the tournament; it was really engaging stuff that seemed to indicate the show would pick up during its serious moments. Unfortunately, I feel like the direction the music is headed in now is just not good. Not to mention the remaster is just not aesthetically pleasing whatsoever.
Techno Boo and the increasing shift towards artificial sounds over the orchestral stuff is just not what I want to think of when I watch Dragon Ball. I don't think it fits the series and it's a very clear attempt to pander to the US dub fanbase which I'm simply not interested in in the slightest. This is Dragon Ball to me and I'm one of the rare folks who finds Yamamoto to be on par with Kikuchi so even this is something I hold dear to my heart. What's not Dragon Ball is this - a weird abortion of what I consider the series' tone to be. It's frustrating and uncomfortable to watch.
Much like I have no interest in watching (what is, to me) a strange version of the show with FUNi's Z dub and broadcast music; I don't really have much interest in investing myself in something that just feels alien and, more importantly, wrong.
A few weeks in, I called Kai 'an inconsistent but enjoyable mess' and Mike commented on the Podcast that I might be 'suffering from a bit of Stockholm Syndrome there'. I think he was right; I spent each week anticipating the next, hoping that it'd get better or that one good episode would translate into a consistent show that resembled the original run of Kai that I so dearly love. We're 20 episodes in now and nothing has really changed. My enthusiasm is gone and I'm just left with a mix of antipathy for TOEI and apathy towards the show.
So there you go, Mr. Anonymous on Kazenshuu Confessions, there's my stance on the show. I'll stop flipping and flopping now. Happy?
I always try my best to be positive towards different approaches but when something feels lazy and undermines the very core of the show then I'm not going to keep it up.

Re: Kai Episode 118 (24 August 2014)
As expected, this episode was meant to cover everything leading to Vegeta's upcoming fight, so that the next episode can be about Vegeta VS Boo from A to Z. That's nice.
The new Boo theme really sounds like Kikuchi when the trumpets come up! Which could usually be a bad thing, but it kind of works here.
I loved Trunks' reaction to seeing the mess he's done with Piccolo, and Piccolo's snappy comeback (although he is quick to re-focus his attention when he detects almost instantly the tremoundous, overwhelming power level nearby).

Ajay's Buu clip was bugging me. I couldn't quite place where I've heard Babidi's voice before. Looked up Bin Shamada, and it turns out he was Bocoe in the original Sonic X. He uses pretty much the same voice here.

He said quite awhile ago that he hasn't really watched any of Buu Kai.JEFFMAN219 wrote:I wonder what VegettoEX thinks about Kai now?

Re: Kai Episode 118 (24 August 2014)
Seems more and more folks losing interest in this, does anyone know how are the ratings for this is Japan?
Re: Kai Episode 118 (24 August 2014)
Just to add to the trivia, he also voices Chuck, though Babidi's voice is much closer to Bocoe. From what I recall from Bin Shimada's voice roles, it tends those two voices. Just it's funny Sonic X got to portray both ranges, with two different characters.Valerius Dover wrote:Ajay's Buu clip was bugging me. I couldn't quite place where I've heard Babidi's voice before. Generally, it's performed worse than Dragon Ball Kai did prior. It tends to be around 3.0-6.0, though the ratings vary from week to week, but it tends to be around there, usually on the higher end of that range.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Seems more and more folks losing interest in this, does anyone know how are the ratings for this is Japan?

The track where Buu blasts Gohan away sounds an awful lot like the music from Pandemic 2.
Re: Kai Episode 118 (24 August 2014)
Oh wow, that is very similar.
Can we have another composer scandal so at the very least we get lazy Kikuchi again?

Well, regarding the music... at least the opening and the ending are good.

I must be one of the few people who arnt really bothered by Kai lol. Granted I'm not much of a Buu saga fan. But it gives me something to look forward every week lol. Plus Vegetas performance in this episode was pretty good. Sorta reminded me of Drummond around this thime

However, I refuse to call this abomination by the same name.
Re: Kai Episode 118 (24 August 2014)
This score doesn't sound anything like Faulconer's score. Not a bit. Basically the only similarity is a superficial one, in that they both use synths.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!
