Episode Summary

On the cruise ship, everyone goes quiet as they see that Beerus has knocked Boo into the water with a huge splash. Bulma demands that Vegeta handle the problem, but he just meekly offers to make Beerus more pudding. Dende is terrified, as he has never felt such ki before! Boo flies back up and attacks Beerus again, but he is still no match. Meanwhile, Whis sits at one of the sushi bars on board, thoroughly enjoying himself. Goten and Trunks fuse into Gotenks, and vow to protect the Dragon Balls. Beerus is curious what kind of food they are talking about. Gotenks chides Beerus for getting so upset over pudding, which causes Beerus to freak out. They might not consider pudding a big deal, he says, but he has never tasted it before and is consumed with curiosity. All of Gotenks’ attacks have no affect on Beerus, making Piccolo worry about who Beerus is and how he can be so strong. Piccolo, No. 18, and Tenshinhan join the battle, but fare no better.

Beerus calls out for Whis, who is still at the sushi bar, and after much delay Whis comes to his side. Beerus says he and the Oracle Fish must have been mistaken about Super Saiyan God after all, and he just wants to destroy Earth and head home. Elsewhere, Videl and Gohan attend to Satan (who had been sent flying by Boo and Beerus). Satan reassures them that he only has light injuries, while Gohan thinks that they are up against a terrible opponent.

Boo recovers and comes at Beerus yet again, but the results are the same. Chi-Chi scolds Kuririn for standing around while No. 18 is fighting, but Kuririn protests that he is retired from martial arts, and he has Marron to worry about. Yamcha offers to look after Marron so that Kuririn can go fight, but Piccolo says it would not make a difference. Dende is now even more petrified over Beerus, and thinks he must be a god. Gohan powers up and joins the battle, but even he is also no match. Piccolo is amazed that Beerus can defeat even Gohan, and realizes Dende must be right.

With everyone else down, Vegeta thinks to himself that he is the proud Saiyan prince. He transforms into a Super Saiyan and tries to battle Beerus, but Beerus paralyzes him without even lifting a finger. He knocks Vegeta to the ground and puts his foot on his head, just as he had done with King Vegeta all those years ago. Beerus taunts Vegeta by saying he is a weakling just like his father. With no sign of Super Saiyan God, and no pudding, Beerus declares that he has no need for the Earth, and begins charging an attack to destroy it. But just then, Bulma comes and slaps Beerus in the face for ruining her birthday party. While Vegeta looks on powerlessly, Beerus slaps her back, knocking her to the ground. Vegeta finally snaps… “What have you done to my Bulma?!” Back on his feet and completely enraged, Vegeta powers up into his Super Saiyan 2 form, and shouts that he will make Beerus pay for this.

Episode Notes

  • While facing Beerus, Vegeta says that things are quite “desperate” using the phrase yabure kabure. This phrase was previously used as the title for the first Dragon Ball Kai ending theme song, “Yeah! Break! Care! Break!”. While the literal translation of yabure kabure is “desperation”, the idea behind writing the theme song’s title as “Yeah! Break! Care! Break!” is based on it sounding like yabure kabure when said really fast.
  • Similar to the 2013 theatrical film Battle of Gods, Beerus reprimands Gotenks like a child, although instead of spanking him on the butt he repeatedly slaps his forearm until it is red and sore. This sort of punishment comes from the Japanese game jan-ken (also know as “Rock, Paper, Scissors”), where the winner will sometimes slap the loser’s forearm or wrist with two fingers until it hurts.
  • Vegeta’s angered response after seeing Beerus hit Bulma differs between Battle of Gods and Dragon Ball Super, although the film’s line is used as part of this episode’s title.

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods

    よくも俺のブルマを!
    Yokumo ore no Buruma o!
How dare you hit my Bulma!

    Dragon Ball Super

    俺のブルマに何しやがる!
Ore no Buruma ni nanishi yagaru!
What have you done to my Bulma?!
